The Pamplona-born Amaia Romero and the Catalan Alfred Garcia have returned to meet again on stage after their resounding love breakup. The two singers emerged from ‘Operación Triunfo’ have joined again this past Thursday to say goodbye to the tour of the program that gave them fame.
Amaia and Alfred have reissued on the stage of a crowded Palau Sant Jordi, in Barcelona, ‘City of stars’, the theme that saw them born as a sentimental couple and that catapulted them as television idols of a generation.
“Normally she presented it, but today it’s my turn to do it. This song filled many people with illusion, we made a hole in the sky and the stars began to shine”, began the ‘triunfito’.
The Navarrese has arrived next to the piano and they have merged in a brief embrace to give way to the performance, very correct and in which both singers have demonstrated their professionalism and their ability to interpret a romantic song despite the pain of going through a breakup.

When is city of stars in la la land

Their complicity spread throughout the set and crossed the screens to reach thousands of homes that at that moment were watching La 1 of TVE. At that moment, the Almaia phenomenon gained a lot of strength and both were established as favorites to reach the final, as we later saw what happened.

That memory (including the concert in Barcelona with ‘cobra’ included from Bisbal to Chenoa) was a success. TVE took advantage of the opportunity. It rescued the format of an Operación Triunfo that reminds in many details to that first edition, to that experiment that was a success in terms of audience.
The high point of this OT revival came on Monday, November 13. TVE and the social networks of the talent show were already paving the way on the Internet with Amaia and Alfred’s interpretation of ‘City of Stars’, the main theme of the soundtrack of ‘La La Land’, the film starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.
The online debate got off to an early start. The mic pass (rehearsal at the academy) was broadcast and speculation was rife as to whether it was the best audition in the history of the program. The big day came with the live gala. Amaia and Alfred’s performance put the finishing touch to the event. With the two artists alternating playing the piano, the magic happened. They are neither Ryan Gosling nor Emma Stone. The work of the actors and the story behind ‘La La Land’ goes far beyond a musical performance. But what is clear is that the great ‘triumph’ of this OT is that the fans and the most nostalgic of this format have the heirs of that ‘Escondidos’ by David Bisbal and Chenoa that excited a whole generation.

“It’s been a long time since I enjoyed watching TV so much”, messages like this or very similar ones filled the social networks before the interpretation that Amaia and Alfred did of ‘City of Stars’, track belonging to the movie ‘La La Land’. In which program did they sing? In Operación Triunfo (OT), of course. And not only did they sing, but they also played piano four hands at the same time.
Together with Aitana, Amaia and Alfred were the three favorites of the gala. Amaia, finally, was the lucky one. The performance was a smash hit and that was the most immediate result. But there is more: currently the video that captures the moment is in fifth place of the videos of the moment, reaching 200,000 views in less than 16 hours.
And La Vanguardia defends that this performance “has made history” in OT. Social networks and media also agree on one aspect: ‘City of Stars’, by Alfred and Amaia, is the new ‘Escondidos’, by Chenoa and Bisbal.
